London, October 21st 2025 – Zayo Europe has today announced the launch of a new 400G enabled wave route connecting London and Frankfurt via Brussels.
Scheduled to go live in the first half of 2026, the 998km route will deliver faster, more resilient, and diverse connectivity between two of Europe’s most important digital hubs. This is Zayo Europe’s 6th long-haul wavelength route between the UK and mainland Europe, built on the new Q&E North subsea cable system.
The key locations of these hubs are well positioned to support growing demand for AI workloads, cloud computing, and low-latency applications. They have a key role to play, with McKinsey data predicting data centre IT load demand will reach 35GW by 2030.
The route also reinforces the strength of the FLAP markets, Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, and Paris, which together form the backbone of Europe’s internet ecosystem. By introducing a new, direct connection, Zayo Europe expands our capability for customers operating in these critical hubs, without the need to travel via Amsterdam or Paris, strengthening resiliency and providing an additional layer of diversity.
Running directly via Brussels, the city sits at the heart of Europe and is therefore well-positioned to handle increasing data demands. Its central location, robust network connections, and stable energy supply make it a natural hub for reliable, high-performance connectivity. Positioned between the FLAP markets, Brussels serves as a meeting point for the cloud, AI, and internet ecosystems shaping the continent’s digital future.
Building on its expansion in Germany last year, Zayo Europe now operates 400G enabled markets in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Bremen, Dreseden and Leipzig. These sites, combined with the new London–Frankfurt route, highlight Zayo’s ongoing commitment to delivering a more robust and scalable digital backbone across Europe.
Colman Deegan, CEO of Zayo Europe, commented: “These are not just dots on a map but represent a significant step in our continued growth across the continent. Each new route strengthens Europe’s digital backbone, delivering more reliable, low-latency access to major markets, all while ensuring the standard of service excellence our customers rely on.
“With Frankfurt at the heart of our network, and Brussels emerging as a growing hub in the centre of Europe, we’re building the foundation needed to meet rising data and AI demands across the continent.”
