Zayo Europe expands IP footprint in Romania with first Bucharest PoP

Press Release

|22 April 2026

Bucharest, Romania, 21 April 2026 – Zayo Europe, a leading provider of fibre-based connectivity solutions, today announced the launch of a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Bucharest, Romania, further strengthening its IP footprint across Southeast Europe.

The new PoP is located within NXDATA-1 Bucharest DC, the largest carrier-neutral data center and interconnection hub in Romania, providing direct access to one of the region’s most densely interconnected ecosystems.

By extending its network into NXDATA, Zayo Europe is bringing Tier 1 packet connectivity capabilities directly into one of the region’s most connected ecosystems, enabling local and international network providers, cloud platforms, and enterprise customers to benefit from improved access, scale, and interconnection opportunities. As a Tier 1 IP provider, Zayo Europe brings direct access to its pan-European backbone, supporting high-performance, scalable connectivity for bandwidth-intensive applications.

Integrating NXDATA into Zayo Europe’s IP Transit ecosystem also enables access to one of Europe’s most densely interconnected environments, improving latency and overall connectivity performance for customers.

Zayo Europe’s new PoP will deliver 100GE-enabled Tier 1 IP Transit and advanced DDoS mitigation services to telecom operators, ISPs, and content providers across Romania and the wider Southeast Europe region. This PoP enables resilient, low-latency packet services for enterprise customers across Zayo Europe’s pan-European network.

Colman Deegan, CEO at Zayo Europe, said: “Southeast Europe is increasingly becoming a connectivity hub for the continent, offering strategic routes into the global ecosystem. Expanding into Bucharest perfectly complements the growth we have already seen in Sofia, Bulgaria this year and represents a key step in our continued investment in the region.

NXDATA provides a highly connected, carrier-neutral environment that aligns with our strategy to bring our network closer to customers and key digital infrastructure. Enterprise and digital ecosystem partners will now benefit from even greater network resilience and route diversity, at a time when bandwidth demand is growing exponentially due to the increasing use of AI and cloud adoption.”

Sorin Andone, Managing Director at NXDATA, said: “We are proud to welcome Zayo Europe to NXDATA. This deployment strengthens our position as a regional interconnection hub and reinforces Bucharest’s role as a key connectivity gateway for Southeast Europe.

This partnership with a Tier 1 global network operator with extensive fibre infrastructure and IP capabilities like Zayo Europe enhances the quality, diversity, and traffic volumes across the regional telecom ecosystem.”
